They were just a Shakespearean troupe- they couldn't be connected with the Change Wars-or could they? The troupers of the Big Time lack no art to sway a crowd- or to change all history!
No Great Magic Unabridged Start Publishing LLC eBook Fritz Leiber
Greta, a stagehand and gofer, has been around stage people for so long, she knows their thoughts, whims, acting abilities, et cetera. This story revolves around a travelling troupe of stage actors that brings the dénouement to a strangely odd twist. This tale takes place during a single stage performance of Shakespeare’s Macbeth, and the dialogue is hilariously funny, filled with Elizabethan English, puns, and crazy costumes and makeup designs. I liked this story, and it is a fast read.Product details

No Great Magic Unabridged Start Publishing LLC eBook Fritz Leiber Reviews
an ok book by a very good writer. I like the plot, tho halfway through I knew what was happening. Liked the ending clever.
A funny and engaging portrait of a travelling troop of actors that leads up to a weird and unexpected twist. Taking place entirely within the timeframe of a single performance of MacBeth, it's short and sweet and written with a fun, bouncy energy.
Product arrived on time, in excellent condition. Very satisfied.
It's funny that since I only ever knew Fritz Leiber for his Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser swords and sorcery series that I never considered his other writings until I found some free on kindle.
This is definitely worth checking out for classic sci-fi/fantasy fans and it's a fairly quick read, so I won't go into detail except to say it reminded me quite a bit of an old Neil Gaiman's Sandman story set in Shakespearean England.
Enjoy!
Everyone has praised this work so eloquently I don't believe I can add anything but my 5 stars. Thanks to those who took the time to make this little gem available online. Most of all, thank you Mr. Leiber, for sharing your talent and imagination with us.
One of Mr Leiber's exquisite short stories, one dealing with his background in the theater and set in his Time War between the Spiders and the Snakes, this tells the further story of Great Forzane, the heroine/narrator of his classic SF novel, "The Big TIme." A nice addition my Leiber shelves!
The sword & sorcery genre has an uncommonly tight grip on bad writing. Leiber's prose is a grand exception. His most famous works...Fafherd and the Grey Mouser have an ingrained grace that is lacking in the typing of 99% of any genre you care to mention, fiction or non-fiction.
But here, Leiber cuts loose and gives his gift free reign, not to mention free range. His thespian background sifting and center, his Elizabethan tongue could pass muster in the old Globe Theatre...his parents were both Shakespearean actors and the author seems equally at home in the Bard's poetry as he does in the backstage patois.
The only thing awkward and strained here is the plot. The story is just a serviceable rack on which to hang the words. And I'm fine with that for this one occasion...I'll bet there was fine sport in its making.
