A heart-breaking story of two warring parents in a child custody case - and the innocent little girl caught in the middle.
Garry Hartshorn and Softie Monaghan were never love's young dream. Not even on their wedding day.
Softie was sophisticated, a career woman, who owned a nice apartment overlooking St Kilda Beach. Garry had a few rough edges, plus one failed marriage and an assortment of jobs under his belt. But Softie's body clock was ticking, and Garry wanted children ...
So they got married, and produced the only thing they ever had in common. Matilda.
Now, two years later, their golden-haired child is at the centre of a bitter divorce and custody battle. Both parents insist that her well-being is the only thing they care about. Yet, in truth, Matilda was always the one most likely to become lost.

Matilda is Missing edition by Caroline Overington Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
How sad marriage breakdowns are when children are involved. This has an unexpected ending, very good read.
Read this awhile ago but remember I loved. Conveyed emotions well without being overly emotional
an interesting point of view on how things can go amazingly wrong by parents
who are disputing the rights and wrongs of custody.the ending just goes to show how they all got it wrong simply because they were so intent on their own agenda that they completely overlooked the best interests of their child.
I discovered Caroline Overington last year and thought her "Sisters of Mercy" was an amazing book, so grabbed this book straight away. I was disappointed though, as it does not compare. The story - is a familiar one - divorce and the fight for custody of the child, who as usual gets stuck in the middle. Neither of the characters (father and mother) were likeable or deserved custody of the poor little girl. The ending was also disappointing - but I guess happens all the time in the real world. Not one of Caroline's better books.
I like Caroline Overington, but kept skipping this due to title...figured it would be very generic...but I was WRONG...Read in two days...not at all what I was expecting.....
This book has an interesting premise, and a good twist at the end, but the middle drags on WAY too long. The mother was a completely unsympathetic character, and the characters that seemed most interesting (Barry, the judge, and even Garry) don't get fleshed out very well. Good in the beginning but really dragged in the middle -I finally gave up and skipped to the end.
I heard about this book when the author was on TV speaking about it and her in-person discussion was more interesting than the book itself. The story is slow and it doesn't read like a punchy real-life story as I'd expected. It was ok and I read the whole thing, but I won't be re-reading it as I found the subject matter to be disturbing and the writing style and plot weren't enough to make up for that.
